My husband and I stayed at The Mayhew on a mini-moon trip to Grand Marais. We absolutely loved it! The entire complex is beautiful, clean, and cozy. You cant beat the location - it is right in the heart of downtown, within walking distance to everything, and right across from the lakeshore. The views from the rooftop patio are amazing, and the outdoor fireplace with a diy pizza oven is so cozy. We will definitely stay here again! I love that all the rooms are a different theme, and we want to try them all!

What a gem!! Regrettably, I could only stay two nights in this cozy, waterfront property. The rooms were well stocked with all you need to feel at home. Sweet kitchen, comfy beds and decor that can take you back to sweet memories. The common spaces were so relaxing. The courtyard with the big fire place and pizza oven were so warm and cozy on a chilly night. Just a great stop on my renew and recharge getaway. Highly recommend the Mayhew Inn.

The Mayhew was a wonderful place to stay, it far exceeded our expectations. We were nervous about how small our room would be, but it worked out perfectly because everything about the room was so thoughtful. It was spotless and the decor was very interesting. We also loved the common spaces like the dragon room, outdoor fireplace and the rooftop! The location was perfect for us. I was traveling with my mom, my 10 year old, and my two year old. We could easily get everywhere we wanted to go in town quite easily. Finally, my newly potty trained two year old unfortunately wet the bed during our stay. Housekeeping was cheerful about helping us get the linens cleaned. Our stay at the Mayhew was just one leg of a road trip where we stayed in five different hotels and it was by far our favorite. If I could give it more than five stars, I would!

A Perfect North Shore Getaway Our women’s getaway to The Mayhew in January 2025 was absolutely unforgettable! We rented the entire hotel, and it was the perfect setup for our group of 13. The outdoor fireplace was a cozy highlight, and the two hosting areas gave us plenty of room to relax and connect. The large Thunderbird unit was especially ideal for gathering everyone, and we loved that everything we needed to cook and serve meals was conveniently provided in three of the larger units. The views of the bay were breathtaking, and the proximity to local restaurants, hiking trails, breweries, and more made it easy to explore the incredible North Shore. We even had some special visitors—an owl and a snow bunny—which added a magical touch to our stay. As a pet-friendly destination, The Mayhew was perfect for bringing along my four-legged pal, who loved it just as much as we did! Joel and Amy were fantastic hosts, with excellent communication and support to ensure everything was flawlessly organized. If you're looking for a cozy, scenic, and well-equipped place to stay, The Mayhew is an absolute gem. We can’t wait to return!

The Mayhew Inn has fantastic personality. The rooms are each unique and thoughtfully kitted with everything you could need for a comfortable stay - mine had a record player with a excellent library of the essential 70s classics. It's a great place to cozy up with a book at night; Lake Superior is right there across the street waiting for you; and the common areas like the Outdoor Fireplace and the Dragon Lounge and the rooftop decks just add to the reasons you need to stay here. And then there's the excellent manager. He's available if you need something, a pleasure to chat with, and just a really excellent host. Thank you!

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 tween/teen kids) just returned from a wonderful long weekend at The Mayhew Inn. We all loved it! The decor was fun for all of us, and there was plenty of space to spread out. We stayed in the Storefront unit, and it was lovely. The record player and games were a huge hit - we were there in the winter that wasn't (2023-2024) and we had one quite rainy day that we spent mostly in the common lounge area playing games and listening to records. Everyone loved being right in town and having the freedom to walk to shops and cafes - even in early March, there was still enough spots open each day. We would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the rooftop patio! A few notes on the unit to help with expectations: -The bedrooms have a sliding barn door and one has a curtain so don't really block sound - if you have noise sensitive parties in your group, just something to be aware of (however you can just go to the common spaces which are very close - we did this for the early risers/night owls in our family) -Street lights do come in the living room/main bedroom so bring an eye mask if light bothers you.

Overall everything was great. The room I stayed in was the front option on the second level that had a great view of the lake! This was my second time staying here and our group was spread out in multiple rooms. The only downfall to one room was they weren't able to get in right at the designated time otherwise everything was amazing and I will definitely be back!
